Velma Lee Gartin Caskey, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center- West Point. She was 92. She was born Sept 30,1931 in West Point, MS. She was a graduate of West Point High School and attended Delta State University. She worked at First National Bank of West Point for 22 years before retiring as Manager of the Main St. branch.
Mrs. Caskey was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was very active in church activities throughout the years. She served as past president of the Parish Council and the Ladies Altar Society. She was active with the church’s Young-at-Heart group, and especially enjoyed ministering to the shut-ins.
Velma was a member of the American Legion Unit #38, where she held various offices, and was a member of Friends of the Bryan Public Library. She worked with the Food Pantry in its early founding days.
Mrs. Caskey is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Jordan Gartin and Rena Mae Southern Gartin; sister, Mary Love Gartin Chorley; husband, William Francis Caskey; son, David L. Caskey; and grandson, Christopher Maiersperger.
Mrs. Caskey is survived by three sons: William F. “Billy” Caskey, Jr (Joy), Paul D. Caskey (Kim) and John P. Caskey (Martha); one daughter, Alice Caskey Maiersperger; seven grandchildren: Michael Maiersperger (Bruna), Katherine Caskey, Elizabeth Anderson (Jon), Joseph Caskey, Jonah Caskey, Jordan Caskey (Kinsey), and Frances Ann Caskey; two Great-Grandchildren: Julia and Liam Maiersperger; cousin, Marty Friend.
The family especially thanks Mrs. Caskey’s Caregivers; Candy Woods, Maggie Pernell, Dorothy Townsend and Irene Daily.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday June 28, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bihn Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Maiersperger, Joseph Caskey, Jordan Caskey, Jonah Caskey, Jon Anderson, and Leonard Dichiara. Honorary pallbearers are Joey and Faye Michel, Philip Dimino, and Mike Griffin. Visitation with family will be 5-7 PM Thursday with a Rosary to follow at 7 PM at the church.
