Dr. J. Ronald Staten

James Ronald Staten, MD. FACS passed away February 18, 2024 at NMMC-Tupelo at the age of 77. He was born September 3, 1946 Grenada, MS to the late James Henry Staten and Rae Hall Staten. He was a retired Lt. Col. in the United states Air Force and the U.S. Army where he served as a surgeon at Offutt AFB; Minot AFB; Kirkuk, Iraq; Camp Bond Steel, Kosovo; and Ft. Bliss, TX. Dr. Staten was a physician for 41 years, graduating from University of  MS Medical School in 1971. After serving with the US Air Force for eleven years and completing his general surgery residency at University of Cincinnati he served the people of Ashland, KY and northeast Kentucky in private practice from 1983 to 2006. In 2006, Dr. Staten and his wife, Rebecca moved to Houston, MS to give care to the people of Chickasaw County in the state that he loved. Dr. Staten embraced his medical service as his Christian mission to give to his fellow man. He often said he was blessed to be able to do what he loved. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Staten; sons, Matthew Wells (Jennifer) of Lexington, Kentucky, Jonathan Staten (Kris) of Gallatin, Tennessee, David Staten (Christi) of Conroe, Texas, Paul Staten (Joni) of Camby, Indiana; daughter, Rachel Akujobi (Charles) of Columbus, MS; brother Gary Staten (Carla) of Houston, MS; special niece, Jennifer Staten; great nieces, Amber & Lily; 15 grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday February 23, 2024 at Old Aberdeen Road Church of Christ with Rev. Willie Hamblen officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM Friday at the Church. Interment services will be 3:45 PM at Magnolia Gardens cemetery in Charleston, MS with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, James Grasty, Nathaniel Wells, Nicholas Votion, Phillip Staten, Joshua Wells, CJ Akujobi, Jackson Staten.
