Robert Calvert, PE, PLS

Robert Lamar Calvert, PE, PLS passed away February 15, 2024 at NMMC-West Point at the age of 84. He was born July 24, 1939 to the late Robert Lamar and Suzanne Duke Calvert. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1962. He became a professional engineer: Mississippi, 4499 and Professional land surveyor: Mississippi, 1883. He served as a design engineer and project engineer with Evan E. Tumlinson and Associates from 1964 to 1976. His experience consisted of general civil engineering projects for streets, highways, water and water treatment, distribution, collection and supply. In 1976 he founded and served as president of Calvert-Spradling Engineers, Inc., a civil engineering firm. He has served as Clay County Engineer since 1976, Lowndes County Engineer since 2000, and previously Choctaw County for 16 years. During his career he was associated with the American Council of Engineering Companies, National Society of Professional Engineers, Mississippi Association of Professional Surveyors, American Society of Civil Engineers. He served on several boards of Directors over his lifetime, First National Bank, National Bank of Commerce, Cadence Bank, 4-County Power Association, Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway, Dugan Memorial Home, and West Point Consolidated School District.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wray Calvert; son, Robert Calvert; daughters, Anita Calvert Keys, Beth Calvert, all of West Point; sister, Suzanne Duke Calvert of Jackson; 2 grandsons, Tommy Keys (Melissa) and Miller Keys.

Funeral Services will 3 PM Saturday February 17, 2024 at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marie Smith officiating. A burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Stanley Spradling, Rusty Bowman, John Freeman, Chyi-Hong Lin, Dale Rhodes, Pete Dexter. Visitation with family and friends will be 1:30-3 PM at Robinson Funeral Home.
