J. Kelly Unger III died suddenly of natural causes in his home in West Point, Mississippi on August 18, 2025. Kelly was born in West Point, Mississippi on July 3rd, 1952 to Rev. J. Kelly Unger Jr. and Jeanette Ming Unger. He earned a degree in Biology from Belhaven College and worked for many years at Russell Mills in Alexander City, Alabama. After earning a Masters Degree in education from Auburn University in Montgomery, he became a beloved teacher at Rosenwald High School. He took care of his mother until her death in 2020.
Kelly is survived by his daughter Rachel Song Nazworth, grandson Brentley Nazworth, brother Warren Steven Unger, and sister Heather Unger-Robertson. Kelly was preceded in death by his wife Monterey Unger and his parents Rev. J. Kelly Unger Jr. and Jeanette Ming Unger.
