Rev. James Kelly Unger, Jr., 88, died the 21st of October at his home in West Point. Services will be at 11 AM Friday the 24th of October at the First Presbyterian Church E.P.C. Services will be conducted by Rev. Brandon Bates. Visitation will be at 10 AM Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Sonny Ming, James Hill, Langdon Unger, Jr., James Hornoll, Dr. Craig Robertson, Charles Newell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Civitan Club and Men of the Church and Dr. John Cox. Kelly was born in Soonchun Korea, South Korea to his missionary parents, the late Dr. James Kelly Unger and Eoline Smith Unger. He received his education in Pyongyang North Korea, Ole Miss and MS State and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. He was genuinely interested in others and had a gift for making people feel special and loved. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served on the board of trusties at French Camp Academy, and on the board of Eye and Tissue Bank in Birmingham, AL; and served on the board of World Missions Presbyterian Church US. He was an active member of the Civitan Club in West Point and was a long supporter of the Lions Club in Alabama and Mississippi. He was a Veteran of the US Navy in WWII. He was pastor of several churches; Atmore, AL, Alexander City, AL, Canton, MS, York, AL and Fairfield, Al. He served interim supply at Central Presbyterian Church in Meridian, MS. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanette Ming Unger of West Point; daughter, Heather Robertson (Dr. Craig) of Florence, Al; sons, James Kelly Unger, III (Monterey) of Lynn Haven, Fl, Warren Steven Unger of Mobile, Al; loving brother-in-law, James 'Sonny' Ming; sister-in-law, Mrs. Langdon Unger; 5 grandchildren, Brent Unger, Brandon Unger, Anna Robertson, Day Robertson and Rachel Unger-Nasworth; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Martha Hill, Betty Jane Williams; brother, Langdon Unger.
