Christy Lynn Wilder of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away on August 31, 2026. She was born on May 14, 1976, in West Point, Mississippi to Rodger Wilder and Brenda Orr Andrews.
Christy earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Mississippi University for Women (MUW) and, at the time of her passing, worked for the MUW Foundation.
Those who knew Christy knew exactly where they stood with her. She was caring, willful, sarcastic, and never afraid to speak her mind. She loved to joke around and laugh with anyone she met, and it seemed that everywhere Christy went, she knew someone. She had a way of making connections with people wherever life took her.
Christy had a generous heart and was always willing to help someone in need, especially when they were willing to help themselves. She loved her family and friends fiercely and showed that love through the way she cared for and supported the people who mattered to her.
Perhaps no one experienced that love more than her nieces, Avery and Lila, and her nephew, Orr. Although Christy did not have children of her own, she loved the three of them as if they were her own children, and they held an incredibly special place in her heart.
Christy enjoyed taking care of her plants, cheering on the Mississippi State University football team, and playing Mexican Train dominoes. She was also a planner through and through. Those who knew her best knew that everything had to “have a plan,” a trait that was simply part of who Christy was.
On August 14, 2025, Christy married the love of her life, Eben, in Stirling, Scotland. Their marriage was built on a love that carried them through life together, sharing its joys, challenges, laughter, and memories side by side.
Christy loved the Lord, and her faith remained an important part of her life.
Christy is survived by her husband, Eben Charles Hatch, her father, Rodger Wilder, and stepmother, Lucy Wilder, her mother, Brenda Orr Andrews, and stepfather, Jerry Andrews, her sister, Sarah Sistrunk (Trey), sister, Erica Blackledge (Chris), and Jay Wilder on her father’s side; and brother, Marcus Taylor, and sister Amanda Taylor Dodson (Will) on her mother’s side. She is also survived by her beloved nephews, Bryan Sistrunk, Jacob Sistrunk, Marcus Orr Taylor, Jr., Ethan Wilder and Hunter Wilder, and her nieces, Avery Taylor, Lila Taylor, Kahlan Blackledge, and Nora Blackledge, along with extended family members and many friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alfred and Claire Mae Wilder, Melvin and Anna Belle Orr, Wiley Taylor, Callie Duncan Taylor, and Jerald Andrews, and a step-father, Gerald Douglas Taylor.
In keeping with Christy’s wishes, there will be no traditional funeral or visitation. Instead, her family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life to remember her in the way she wanted. The date, time, and location will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mississippi University for Women Foundation or Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science Foundation.
Christy will be remembered for her quick wit, her strong will, her willingness to help others, and the passionate way she loved her family and friends. She lived life with a plan, spoke her mind, laughed often, and loved deeply. Those fortunate enough to have been loved by Christy will carry that love with them always.
A Celebration of Life will be 2-4 PM Saturday October 17, 2026 at Events off Fifth 515 College St. Columbus, MS 39701.
