Chris was born and raised in West Point, Mississippi on August 9, 1958. He was the only child of Harold “Hamp” Hurst and Gilda Christopher Hurst.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Horner Hurst; sons: Christopher Nelson Hurst of Nashville, Tennessee and William Zachary Hurst, Esq. (Emily) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; cousins: Anne Blair (Lee), Dawn Davidson (C.L.), Barbara Bryan (Tommy), and Nancy Cook; sister-in-law: Tierney Hurst (Terry); brothers-in-law: Tim Horner (Mara) and Ron Horner (Nerissa). Chris graduated from Oak Hill Academy in 1976 and earned his undergraduate degree in 1981 from the University of Mississippi. He continued his studies and graduated with a doctorate degree in transplant immunology in 1998 from the University of Tennessee.

After his studies, Chris started his long-term career in pharmaceuticals by obtaining a position at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals to be involved in the research and development of the immunosuppressive, Rapamune – a drug used for improving the success of organ transplantation and reducing the rate of organ rejection.

The family first located to New Orleans, followed by a long-term relocation to Pennsylvania. His enduring career in pharmaceuticals included directing drug research and development, clinical trials, guiding prospective drugs through FDA approvals, and overseeing company medical affairs.

Chris and Julie retired to their hometown of West Point in 2013. He was a dedicated father, community member, car and music enthusiast, Ole Miss fan, and board member of Sally Kate Winters Family Services.
